If you’ve discovered you can’t get into your Fitbit app to access your sleep data, or can’t log an early morning workout (get you, early riser), then it’s probably a relief to find out you’re not alone. Fitbit is apparently completely down, with users unable to log in.
The problem seems to be widespread, and may be linked to login services, rather than anything between a device and the Fitbit app. Still, the upshot is much the same, with Fitbit customers unable to back up their wearable’s data to their apps.
Problem appears to have begun several hours ago
Just hang tight and wait for a fix
The login issues appear to have begun overnight, according to fans on the Fitbit subreddit. According to a number of accounts, many noticed syncing issues before the app went completely down, and now, most are completely unable to log into the app at all after trying to re-login to clear the syncing problem. Downdetector noticed the problem just before 7am ET, but it seems some were experiencing issues even before the website cottoned onto the problems.
The problem being widespread can be seen as something of relief for most, as it means nobody needs to jump through any hoops. A fair few users on the Fitbit subreddit have expressed relief at not needing to run any major troubleshooting issues themselves. Since the problem seems to be on Fitbit’s end, you don’t need to do anything drastic, like factory resets. It’s also likely reinstalling the app won’t do anything either, but that’s a far less enormous step than wiping your device. Be advised you will likely lose access to your app altogether if you sign out.
There’s been no acknowledgment of the problem from Google‘s or Fitbit Support‘s official X accounts as of yet, but we imagine it’s all hands on deck behind the scenes. For the moment, the problem is entirely that your device can’t communicate with the app, and so, can’t update the app’s data and back it up. So you’ll be missing some analysis and a larger screen to read stats from, but as long as you’ve been syncing regularly, this shouldn’t be a massive problem. All your data should still be available on your device.
For the moment, we advise sitting tight and waiting for your app to come back up again. We’ll be sure to keep you updated when the situation changes.
