Google’s Nest Aware subscription plans are getting more expensive. As shared by Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii and others, Google today informed subscribers that both Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus plans are getting significant price hikes, effective immediately for new sign-ups.

Nest Aware is a subscription offering for Google’s Nest hardware that enables features like expanded video history for cameras and sound detection for smart speakers and displays. Monthly and annual plans for both Nest Aware and the more feature-rich Nest Aware Plus are all going up in price.

The monthly Nest Aware subscription is going from $8 to $10 per month, while the monthly Nest Aware Plus option jumps from $15 to $20. Annual plans are going up, too.

Nest Aware Plus, which offers 10 days of 24/7 video history and 60 days of storage for event video storage, is getting the worst of it, with prices for both monthly and annual plans increasing by a third. Pricing for the more limited standard Nest Aware offering, which comes with 30 days of event video history and no 24/7 video history, is going up by 25 percent.

Existing subscribers have some time

These price increases don’t come with new or enhanced features and are likely to rub customers the wrong way. Without an active Nest Aware subscription, Google’s Nest cameras offer limited functionality: free users are able to view live streams and can access event videos for just three hours after they’re recorded. If you want to use your Nest Cams for more than real-time surveillance, you more or less need a subscription.

While these new prices are effective beginning today for new subscriptions, existing subscribers will be charged the higher price for their plan beginning with their first payment that falls on or after August 15.
