InstallProtect12 makes you authenticate yourself to install or uninstall jailbreak packages

InstallProtect12 is a newly released and free jailbreak tweak created by iOS developer Castyte, and we’re particularly excited to show it to you.

While most jailbreak tweaks are somewhat subjective depending on the user, this one seems like a no-brainer for most as it seriously augments the jailbroken handset experience on all fronts. More specifically, it necessitates biometric authentication to manage packages in three of the most popular package management apps, including Cydia, Sileo, and Zebra.

You’ll notice how the tweak works in the screenshot examples that we’ve included above. From left to right, InstallProtect12 necessitates that the user authenticates themselves via Touch ID in Cydia, Sileo, and Zebra to confirm the installation or uninstallation of any jailbreak add-ons.

For what it’s worth, InstallProtect12 is also fully compatible with Face ID authentication, assuming your jailbroken device supports it.

InstallProtect12 doesn’t come with any options to configure, and to be honest, it doesn’t need any. It works right out of the box on most biometric authentication-capable devices.

Upon trying InstallProtect12 on my own handset, I’m convinced that this security-centric functionality should be a native feature in modern package managers. Jailbreak package installations tend to be particularly sensitive to tampering, especially when installing anti-theft tweaks. InstallProtect12 can help with that, and then some.

If you’re interested in trying InstallProtect12 for yourself, then you can download it for free from the Packix repository in Cydia or Sileo. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS 10, 11, and 12 devices with biometric authentication capabilities.

What are your thoughts regarding InstallProtect12? Will you be installing it? Discuss why or why not in the comments section below.
