Your iPhone’s rear-facing LED camera flash becomes an excellent makeshift flashlight in a pinch, but have you ever glanced at your handset’s battery level after accidentally leaving your LED flash turned on? I have… and it wasn’t pretty.
With a newly-released jailbreak tweak dubbed OhMyFlash by iOS developer NoisyFlake, you can prevent this from happening. The tweak implements a customizable timeout period, after which your iPhone’s rear-facing flash is automatically turned off.
For most, it might seem impossible to forget your iPhone’s flashlight being that it’s so bright. But accidents do happen; especially in the middle of the day when the Sun is shining and you’ve just used your flashlight to look somewhere dark for something you’ve lost, such as some change that fell between the center console and your driver-side car seat.
Upon installing OhMyFlash, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle OhMyFlash on or off on demand
- Configure the number of minutes that you want as a timeout period before the flash is automatically turned off
Even if forgetting your iPhone’s flash isn’t something you do very often, this tweak might be a wise investment because it offers cheap insurance against burning out your LED flash or running your freshly-charged iPhone battery into the ground before you even get to start your day.

Note: Another recently-released jailbreak tweak called Hey!UrFlash does essentially the same thing as OhMyFlash, but it isn’t free. Although Hey!UrFlash was technically out first, we recommend trying OhMyFlash if this functionality is something you might need, as it would save you from spending any money for a somewhat simple tweak.
