This tweak brings macOS-inspired open app indicators to the iPhone’s Dock

On a Mac, running applications are represented in the Dock with a tiny indicator light beneath the icons that represent said applications. iPhones and iPads also have application Docks, but no such indicator appears on those platforms.

Whether or not such a feature would be useful on an iPhone or iPad remains to be seen, however a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called Dock Indicators by iOS developer LacertosusDeus can bring this functionality to these devices in a fun and customizable fashion.

As depicted the illustrations above, Dock Indicators can be configured to appear a plethora of different ways. Whether you like a small macOS-style dot or longer shapes to take their place, the tweak has you covered. It also lets you apply custom coloring if that’s your cup of tea.

Once installed, Dock Indicators puts a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where users can configure a number of options to their liking:

Here, you can:

  • Adjust the Y-axis offset of the indicator beneath the app icon
  • Adjust the indicator width
  • Adjust the indicator height
  • Adjust the indicator corner radius
  • Choose between using the app icon’s dominant color for colorization or picking a custom color
  • Choose the custom color you’d like to use if you prefer
  • Choose a notification animation type:
    • None
    • Bounce
    • Shake along the X-axis
    • Shake along the Y-axis
    • Glow

The developer includes an Apply button at the top right of the preference pane to help you apply the changes you set.

While Dock icon indicators aren’t exactly as useful on the iOS and iPadOS platforms as they are in macOS, we think it still offers an aesthetically pleasing effect for the end user. Those interested in giving Dock Indicators a try can download it for free from the Packix repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices and is open source on the developer’s GitHib page.

Will you be putting application indicators in your pwned handset’s Dock with Dock Indicators? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
