Following a series of incremental updates on the status of the Odyssey Team’s upcoming Cheyote jailbreak tool for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, project lead developer took to the Sileo / Taurine / Odyssey Discord channel late Sunday night to share a comprehensive overview of what had been completed and what still needs completing before it’s ready.
In the ping, CoolStar notes having completed the following milestones:
- Breaking out of sandbox
- Getting root
- Getting read/write access to the filesystem (except for rootFS)
- Breaking AMFI / codesign
- Running shell commands (some bugs identified on A12+ that need ironing out)
- Fixing fork() on A12 and newer handsets (some bugs identified that need ironing out)
- Getting OpenSSH running
- Getting legacy Odyssey launchd injection working
- Add USB Ethernet debug support
As of now, the only two remaining bullet points aside from fixing a few bugs in the aforementioned list are:
- Fixing dyld hook
- Getting Userspace reboot to work
These updates come shortly after CoolStar showed off working shell commands on an A13 device, and more recently, tweak injection:
The latest updates serve as reassurances of the progress currently happening on the iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 jailbreak, which currently carries the unspecific ETA of “coming soon.” Rootless as it may be, the jailbreak user experience of Cheyote shouldn’t be massively different or sub-par to the jailbreaks most know and love already, however if you read the details discussed in our F.A.Q. post, then you will understand why it won’t be overnight that jailbreak tweak developers update their tweaks for the new rootless dynamic.
