Developer-focused palera1n checkm8-based iOS 15.x jailbreak now supports various iPads

If you’ve been following along with us this week, then you’ve undoubtedly heard about the new developer-centric palera1n jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.7 which is based on the same checkm8 bootrom exploit that made the checkra1n jailbreak famous.

After gaining steam with tweak injection support for all iPhones up to and including the iPhone X early Tuesday morning, project lead developer @itsnebulalol used Twitter in the evening to share that palera1n had added support for the following iPads:

  • iPad 5
  • iPad 6
  • iPad 7
  • iPad Air 2

Although the jailbreak technically supports up to iOS & iPadOS 15.7 on supported devices, it’s worth noting that the included Substitute tweak injection only supports up to and including iOS & iPadOS 15.3.1. This means that anyone jailbreaking a later firmware won’t have the same luxury of installing jailbreak tweaks currently present on the GitHub compatibility list.

The palera1n jailbreak is only intended for developers, but tech-savvy jailbreakers may also be able to take advantage of it. While the primary caveat of palera1n is that it’s a tethered jailbreak, which requires connecting to a computer after every reboot, @itsnebulalol says that the jailbreak itself is stable.

Given how palera1n utilizes the checkm8 exploit, it only runs on older devices with A9-A11 chips running iOS 15.0-15.7, ranging from the iPhone 6s to the iPhone X. A10 and A11 devices will not have access to passcode or biometric authentication for personal security if they jailbreak with palera1n.

Palera1n is not a rootless jailbreak like the upcoming Cheyote jailbreak by the Odyssey Team is slated to be, however Cheyote will support newer devices.

If you’re interested in learning more about palera1n, then you should head over to the developer’s GitHub page.
