As we conclude the first week of 2023, many are wondering what could be in store for the jailbreak community or for iPhone hacking and modding in general.
iDB is committed to keeping our readers apprised of the latest developments as they happen, and of course, making roundups just like this one every weekend in case our readers miss anything important relating to jailbreak tweaks and news during the work week.
In this roundup, we’ll go over everything that we showed you during the week of Monday, January 2nd to Sunday, January 8th.
Important stuff from this week
Palera1n jailbreak to go rootless
The palera1n team used the New Year holiday for 2023 to share the news that the palera1n jailbreak would be going rootless in the near future.
The rootless dynamic is a way for jailbreak developers to circumvent Apple’s signed system volume (SSV) security mitigations and still allow jailbreak tweaks to run. This will also have other benefits, such as a much faster jailbreak process.
You can learn more about the announcement and what it entails in our full news post.
Bypass jailbreak detection
A new tool called Not a bypass for the palera1n jailbreak on iOS 15 & 16 works as a global jailbreak detection bypass for a slew of different App Store apps.
The bypass may soon receive support for other jailbreaks.
You can learn more about Not a bypass in our full review post.
Change YouTube video playback speed with a gesture
The new YTHoldForSpeed jailbreak tweak allows users to change the playback speed of any video they might be watching in the YouTube app by simply tapping and holding on the video in the app.
The tweak is configurable from within the YouTube app, such as changing the tap and hold duration, the default playback speed, enabling haptic feedback, and more.
Learn more about YTHoldForSpeed in our full review post.
Intelligent Rotation Lock controls
TwistNTurn is a new jailbreak tweak that aims to make using Rotation Lock more user-friendly by allowing users to more easily switch to landscape mode when the tweak detects when the user might want to do so.
The tweak adds a floating Rotation Lock toggle button to the user interface that can be tapped when moving the device into landscape orientation, and when going back, the tweak intelligently re-enables Rotation Lock for portrait orientation.
You can learn more about TwistNTurn in our full review post.
Evyrest auto wallpaper changer
Evyrest is an automatic wallpaper changer for both jailbroken and TrollStore devices.
The app sources wallpapers from Unsplash and replaces them every so often to keep your background looking fresh.
You can find out more about Evyrest in our full review post.
TrollTools v3.0 released
The popular TrollStore-based system customizer known as TrollTools was updated to version 3.0 this past week with a significant change log.
In what’s expected to be the final major update to the project, TrollTools has received a UI overhaul in addition to new features.
You can learn more about TrollTools version 3.0 in our full news post.
iCleaner gets iOS 15 support
The popular iCleaner junk file removal tool received preliminary support for iOS & iPadOS 15 this week, allowing users of the palera1n and XinaA15 jailbreaks to reclaim lost storage space.
You can learn more about these updates in our full news post.
Theming app icons with SnowBoard
By using SnowBoard, you can theme your jailbroken handset’s app icons.
SnowBoard is a modern theming engine that looks and feels a lot like the classic WinterBoard.
You can learn more about how to use SnowBoard to theme your jailbroken handset’s app icons in our step-by-step tutorial.
Mineek’s dirtycowapp
Palera1n team member Mineek showed off an app on Tuesday that would allow for additional system customization on MacDirtyCow-vulnerable devices on iOS 15.x-16.1.2 without a jailbreak.
The app officially launched on Thursday, and while it has more options than it did in the teaser, Mineek says more options are coming in the future.
You can learn more about dirtycowapp and what you can do with it in our full news post.
File manager for MacDirtyCow
Santander is a free file manager app that allows those taking advantage of the MacDirtyCow bug in iOS 15.x-16.1.2 to modify system files for a temporary period.
The app reminds us a lot of Filza, except that it’s not intended for jailbroken devices. All changes made in Santander revert after a reboot, but it’s not recommended that you change anything unless you know what you’re doing.
You can read more about Santander in our full review post.
