Just last week, we told you about a fork of the Serotonin semi-jailbreak called NathanLR by iOS developer Nathan (@dedbeddedbed) that improves compatibility with rootless-oriented jailbreak tweaks and uses a more reliable exploit — the same one used by TrollInstallerX.
NathanLR is still a semi-jailbreak by definition, so it lacks many of the telltale characteristics of a full-fledged jailbreak like Dopamine. Still, it’s possible to use package manager apps like Sileo and inject jailbreak tweak code into various system processes.
Today, we are excited to share that a sizable part of NathanLR is now open source on the developer’s GitHub page per an announcement shared to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) early Tuesday morning.
We say sizable because the entire project is not open source just yet. As noted in the X post, the hooks are not yet open source, which should change at a future date.
While NathanLR is a newer project with a much smaller following than the now well-established Serotonin semi-jailbreak, we do think that the benefits merit attention.
NathanLR supports rootless jailbreak tweak injection on firmware newer than what the Dopamine v2 jailbreak can run on, specifically, iOS & iPadOS 16.5.1-16.6.1. Since the Serotonin semi-jailbreak has compatibility issues with these tweaks without running conversion software for them, NathanLR promises to be more user-friendly.
It’s worth noting that NathanLR is still in its developmental stages and should be considered a beta project at this time. That said, we recommend that those looking forward to trying it out continue waiting until the bugs get ironed out.
