It’s official! Samsung confirmed that the next Galaxy Unpacked event is set for January 22 in San Jose, California. The announcement and accompanying teaser video are light on details, but one thing is certain: AI will be the focus of the event. What else can you expect to see at Galaxy Unpacked 2025? Rumors have been filling in the blanks for weeks, so we have a clear picture of what’s coming. The new Galaxy S25 series is guaranteed to make a splash, but this likely won’t be the only hardware under the Unpacked 2025 spotlight.

Mark you calendars for January 22

1 The Samsung Galaxy S25 series

Welcome the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra

Renders and leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The stars of Unpacked on January 22 will be the latest Samsung Galaxy S-series flagship phones. The leaks point to a familiar lineup: a Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and a Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, the teaser image for the Samsung event suggests a fourth device is coming, presumably the rumored Galaxy S25 Slim. More on that model in a bit.

We do not expect the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra to deviate much from the tried-and-tested formula. Rumor has it that all three will come with slightly thinner bodies, faster processors, and new AI software features. There’s no word of major changes in the battery and camera departments. Only the S25 Ultra is potentially getting new 50MP sensors for its ultra-wide and 3x telephoto cams. The Ultra will also replace the angular, Note-esque corners with rounded ones, as pictured above.

2 The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim

An extra-thin Galaxy S25 model and iPhone rival

We believe the Galaxy S25 Slim could be the fourth device the Unpacked 2025 invitation is teasing. Little is known about this phone. No images have leaked (the above is the Galaxy S24 FE), key specs are up in the air, and the name is still unconfirmed. Given the lack of certainty and evidence, the rumors of a Galaxy S25 Slim release in the second half of 2025 seem believable.

It is speculated that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is the company’s answer to the rumored iPhone 17 Air, coming this fall. Both phones are expected to impress with ultra-thin profiles: between 6 and 7mm thin for the S25 Slim, according to well-known leaker Ice Universe (via Android Authority). Hopefully, details like its specs, release date, and pricing will be confirmed at Unpacked.

3 One UI 7

Samsung’s biggest visual overhaul in a while

One UI is the custom Android software running on all new Samsung Galaxy phones. The seventh major version has been in beta for a couple of months, and its full release should coincide with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series. Without a doubt, the latest Galaxy S flagships will be among the first phones with One UI 7, but the new software should eventually come to other recent Galaxy models.

We expect Samsung to showcase the key changes in One UI 7 at Unpacked 2025. These include a redesigned lock screen and app drawer, tweaked notifications, and updated quick settings. First-party icons and widgets have also been redesigned. Rest assured that AI features will be sprinkled throughout.

4 A next-generation Bixby AI assistant

Bixby is about to become a lot more useful

Bixby is expected to show off its AI superpowers at Unpacked. A smarter, LLM-powered variant of Samsung’s virtual assistant has been available in China for several months, and we’ll probably see it launch globally with the Galaxy S25 series.

This next-generation Bixby is becoming an alternative to ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Like the two well-known AI assistants, it can process complex commands in natural language. The generative AI-powered Bixby can also understand context, like the content on the screen, to provide more useful and accurate responses. We can’t say if Samsung’s virtual assistant performs as well as ChatGPT or Gemini, but with tighter integration into Samsung’s software, it could be a worthy rival.

According to a recent report, Samsung will show a set of XR (extended reality) smart glasses at Unpacked. The report states that the unveiling may be an image or video, as the product is still in the prototype stage. The glasses are allegedly set to launch in the third quarter of 2025.

Don’t confuse these Samsung XR smart glasses with Samsung’s VR headset. The former is a 50-gram device resembling a typical pair of shades, featuring gesture and facial recognition as well as payment functions, according to the report. As for the latter, it is an Apple Vision Pro-like headset running Google’s new Android XR platform. Samsung showed a picture of its VR headset in December without committing to a release timeframe.

6 A Samsung Galaxy Ring 2

With new sizes, better sensors

The Samsung Galaxy Ring may have been out for six months, but rumors of a successor are making the rounds. It is said that a Galaxy Ring 2 will debut at Unpacked, bringing two new larger sizes in addition to the nine available today. More accurate sensors and improved AI features are also on the list of alleged upgrades. However, the second-gen Galaxy Ring may not arrive until the second half of 2025.

7 Galaxy S24 series to be discontinued

Refurbished S24 variants coming in a few months

It is typical for Samsung to stop selling its old flagships once the new S series is launched. The Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra will probably disappear from the company’s online store after the Galaxy S25 trio goes on sale. Sales of the Galaxy S24 FE will most likely remain unaffected.

However, Samsung’s 2024 flagships are bound to reappear in the Certified Re-Newed section of the company’s online store. Samsung starts selling refurbished old flagships at major discounts several months after they’re discontinued.

8 Don’t expect a tri-fold or a rollable phone at Unpacked

Samsung may show new form factors later in 2025

Samsung is expected to shake things up in 2025 by announcing new smartphone designs. Rumor has it there are at least two innovative form factors in the pipeline: a triple-folding phone and a rollable one. However, the chances of seeing them at Unpacked on January 22 are slim to none. Both devices are coming later in the year, according to leaks.

The rumored tri-fold Samsung Galaxy phone could resemble the Huawei Mate XT, revealing a tablet-sized display when unfolded. However, unlike its Chinese rival, Samsung’s triple-folding phone may fold inward to protect its flexible OLED screen. As for the rollable Galaxy phone, rumors point to a 12.4-inch display size when fully extended.

The most exciting innovation of 2025 could be rollable phones

Will Samsung drop the Galaxy brand at Unpacked?

The Galaxy brand is well-known worldwide, which is why rumors of Samsung dropping the Galaxy branding raised eyebrows when they appeared. Samsung’s goal may be to strengthen the premium image of its S- and Z-series phones. A way to do this could be to sell them under a new brand name.

Nothing is confirmed at this point, but if the rumors are true, it would be out of place for Samsung to announce a flagship phone rebranding at this time. With the Galaxy S25 series being similar to last year’s Galaxy S24 lineup, launching the new models under a new name may have no effect or even backfire. On the other hand, announcing a new Samsung premium brand along with the aforementioned rollable and triple-folding phone may have a greater impact.
