The SolarWinds Database Portfolio is Growing

Essential solutions for Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Data Services performance optimization and cloud migration

Since acquiring SentryOne in October 2020, the SolarWinds team has been regularly updating our Microsoft® Partners and customers about the upside these combined offerings bring to the IT community and the marketplace. Of course, SentryOne has long been recognized for its SQL Server and Microsoft Data Platform tools, with an impressive portfolio of category-leading solutions.

From the perspective of our valued Microsoft co-seller Partners, this expanded family of SQL Server and Azure Data solutions is ideally positioned to seriously contribute to your Azure Consumption Revenue (ACR). Regardless of whether your customers are running SQL Server, Azure SQL, or open-source software (OSS) databases, we have products capable of delivering more customer wins and accelerating ACR in each account.

Also, as you may have heard, several of our database performance monitoring products now qualify as fully-transactable solutions in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. Specifically, license subscriptions for SolarWinds® Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) and SolarWinds SQL Sentry together as SolarWinds Database Insights for SQL Server are recognized under the Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC).

Learn More About SolarWinds Hybrid Cloud Observability

The long-held commitment of SentryOne to develop quality products for the provisioning, administration, and security of SQL Server and Azure SQL environments dovetails nicely with our own mission. Beginning in 1999, our developers and product managers focused almost exclusively on the many ways in which our solutions empower DBAs, IT professionals, developers, and DevOps/SREs to organize, map, and monitor their data more efficiently. With the addition of the SentryOne catalog, we now have the largest and best-rated line of database monitoring and management products in the industry per TrustRadius, Gartner, and leading IT trade publications.

Following the release of SQL Sentry Event Manager in 2004, SentryOne swiftly became a go-to source for intuitive visualization and management tools for all flavors of Microsoft SQL Server. In the early 2000s, the tasks surrounding SQL Server database administration were often less complicated as most SQL servers were on-premises and virtualized. As hybrid multi-cloud environments emerged as the norm, the SentryOne team expanded their solutions with Performance Advisor in 2008 and in 2010 released Plan Explorer, the most powerful and highly adopted SQL Server query tuning tool in the world. In 2018, SentryOne acquired Pragmatic Works and added Task Factory, Database Mapper, and DBA xPress.

With our combined product portfolios, we meet every customer need in the monitoring and analysis of performance and event metrics for Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Data Services to reduce performance-related incidents, lower infrastructure cost, and de-risk cloud database migration.

The Mission-Critical Importance of Database Oversight in the Cloud

Digital transformation is the central operational imperative of most organizations, so data is increasingly becoming the most important asset. At the same time, risk mitigation continues to be the leading concern of IT professionals and a primary reason private, public, and government entities choose SolarWinds. Each of our solutions has risk mitigation features ‘baked in,’ making it easier for our customers to protect their data assets and for our reseller partners to profit when competing against other offerings.

For your customers migrating to Azure or who are already there, we have several solutions essential to improving the tasks of managing, monitoring, and securing Azure environments. For example, SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM) provides a single-pane-of-glass dashboard view of Azure-hosted databases, applications, and infrastructure for more contextual overviews and insights. It provides the same convenient, centralized view of entire Microsoft ecosystems, including on-premises and remote Microsoft systems, applications, and cloud resources.

To add even more value and simplify licensing, we’ve integrated SAM with our top-rated Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) solution. This seamlessly allows for application performance monitoring across your entire spectrum of Azure assets, AWS, and Apache servers, and Active Directory, with full cross-platform database performance tuning and optimization (Azure SQL DB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Amazon Aurora, DB2, SAP ASE, and MariaDB), all from the same dashboard.

Consistently rated the best performance monitoring tool for Microsoft SQL Server, SolarWinds SQL Sentry helps your customers solve database performance problems with full-stack observability for the data pro. Highly-granular health metrics enable root cause analysis (RCA), troubleshooting, and remediation of performance and other issues that affect application and end-user experiences.

A multiplier effect will continue to be seen from the SentryOne acquisition is the new SolarWinds Database Insights for SQL Server product. This is a bundle of both Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) and SQL Sentry, which creates the most comprehensive toolset available for SQL Server and Azure Data Services (including OSS databases). Engineered to scale within the largest environments, it features detailed performance dashboards and is user-customizable to meet their specific needs.

As we move forward with other such initiatives to leverage the SentryOne products with our existing solutions, we intend to continue driving greater value for your customers in the vast SQL Server and Azure Data Services market. The potential is enormous: more than 95% of Fortune 500 companies and hundreds of U.S. federal departments and agencies trust their data and infrastructure to the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Already a similar percentage relies on SolarWinds solutions.
