This is the fourth update for my Tech Outbound Ship Shape Challenge. If you are catching up, the challenge is to lose 56 pounds of unhealthy body mass with an additional 4 pounds tied to a side bet with Kevin Kline. I started the beginning of March, and I now less than one month to reach the goal. In my last update I reported a total loss of 48 pounds. Here is what happened in June.
Short and sweet
This update is a full two weeks late. I sincerely apologize for that, as my intention was to always be prompt with these updates. If it helps to know why, I’ve had a pretty busy summer. My oldest daughter will be heading off to Japan for a year studying abroad, and my youngest daughter will be off to university at UNC Asheville this fall. Being generally with them has been a priority, and actually preparing them has been time consuming as well. Add this to our team at SentryOne growing by orders of magnitude along with both our product portfolio and planning the second half of our year, and you can envision how my attention has been distributed.
All that aside, the challenge continues! June saw a loss of 11 pounds, putting the total at 59. I will not tell you where I’m at now, but I will tell you that I will indeed be chasing Kevin Kline down with a beard trimmer very soon.

I’ve had a lot of support during these last months. Everyone from my boss and my wife to the amazing SQLFamily that is unique to our industry has been there for me. I want to thank everyone for their support, advice, and general positive influence on my journey toward a healthier lifestyle.
This might also seem like a small thing to some, but I want to make a special shout out to Rachel Siragusa, our events coordinator, for introducing me to Halo Top ice cream. Ice cream has always been kryptonite for me, and having it in at least some form now and then has provided a mental break.
