Getting Real at SQLBits

Since my first trip to the UK to speak at SQLBits, I’ve had a soft spot for this conference. The quality of the content is always excellent, and the team does an amazing job of making the event fun and exciting. This year makes the fourth time I’ve been selected to speak at SQLBits, held this year in Telford, UK.

This year I’ll be presenting a session on implementing near real-time ETL using an oft-overlooked technology built into SQL Server since 2005, Service Broker. This technology is used internally within the SQL Server framework for a lot of the behind-the-scenes processing because it just consistently works. It provides an asychronous messaging system that does all the heavy lifting for you. You set it up, and it just works.

While most often SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages are used for ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load), it isn’t always the most appropriate tool for that task. In this session I’ll go through why Service Broker makes sense when you want your reporting to reflect the state of your business now.

When I’m not presenting my session, I’ll be hanging around the SentryOne booth, to answer your questions and to share how great our solutions are at helping you keep your systems performing at their best.

Please stop by and say hello!
