How to lock horizontal scaling of a text canvas using Fabric.js ?

In this article, we are going to see how to lock horizontal scaling of a text canvas using FabricJS. The canvas means text written is movable, rotatable, resizable and can be stretched. But in this article, we will lock horizontal scaling so that it cannot be scaled horizontally and the length of the Text object cannot be changed. Further, the text itself cannot be edited like a textbox.
To make it possible, we are going to use a JavaScript library called FabricJS. After importing the library using CDN, we will create a canvas block in the body tag which will contain our text. After this, we will initialize instances of Canvas and Text provided by FabricJS and use the lockScalingX property to lock horizontal scaling and render the Canvas on the Text as given in the example below.

Syntax:

fabric.Text(text, lockScalingX: boolean);

Parameters: This function accept two parameters as mentioned above and described below:

  • text: It specifies the text to be written.
  • lockScalingX: It specifies whether to enable or disable the horizontal scaling lock, disabled by default.

Example: We can use FabricJS to lock horizontal scaling of a canvas-like text as given below.

html

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>

<head>
    <title>
        lock horizontal scaling of a canvas-type text
    </title>
    <style>
        h1 {
            color: green;
        }
    </style>
    <!-- Loading the FabricJS library -->
    <script src=
    </script>
</head>

<body>
    <center>
    <h1>neveropen</h1>
    <b>lock scaling flip of a canvas-type text</b>

    <canvas id="canvas" width="600" height="200"
        style="border:1px solid #000000;">
    </canvas>

    <script>
        // Create a new instance of Canvas
        var canvas = new fabric.Canvas("canvas");

        // Create a new Text instance
        var text = new fabric.Text('neveropen', {
            lockScalingX: true
        });

        // Render the text on Canvas
        canvas.add(text);
    </script>
    </center>
</body>

</html>
