Jailbreak news of the week: Possible iOS 16 PPL bypass, How to install RootHide, & more…

One thing we take very seriously here at iDB is our coverage of jailbreak and iPhone hacking news. Unfortunately, we know that busy lives keep a lot of our readers from seeing the latest news as it unfolds, which is why we make roundups like this one every Sunday so that those readers can catch up.

Weekly jailbreak news roundup.Weekly jailbreak news roundup.

In today’s piece, we’ll be discussing all the latest news and developments in these spaces spanning the week of Monday, September 25th to Sunday, October 1st.

Important stuff from this week

Possible iOS 16 PPL bypass

Security researcher Linus Henze, known for his amazing efforts over the years and more recently for his Fugu15 developer jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1, was credited by Apple in the About the security content of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 support document for finding something particularly interesting.

Citing Dopamine jailbreak lead developer Lars Fröder, the details suggest that this could be a PPL bypass for iOS & iPadOS 16 devices — the final piece of the puzzle required to get a jailbreak working on Apple’s last-generation software and hardware.

Normally when you set your AirDrop setting to ‘Everyone,’ absolutely anyone can ping you with AirDrop requests at any time.

The AirDrop16 jailbreak tweak lets you set a time limit on the ‘Everyone’ setting so that you have enough time to do what you need to do before reverting back to a more private setting.

You can learn more about AirDrop16 and how it works in our full review post.

TempDrop

TempDrop is another AirDrop-centric add-on that lets users temporarily enable “Everyone” mode for the popular sharing service on a timer, such that when the timer runs out, AirDrop returns to a more private setting.

It’s ideal for making it easier for strangers to send or receive files with you for a short time, while also ensuring that you return to a private setting afterward without the opportunity to forget and leave yourself open to spam.

The Sideloadly sideloading software for iPhones and iPads received an update this past week to version 0.50.0 to add support for Apple’s all-new macOS 14.0 Sonoma software update.

This update also moves away from dependence on a Mail app legacy plug-in that is no longer supported on macOS Sonoma, which further enhances the user experience.

You can learn more about this update in our full news post.

You’ve found the end of today’s roundup post, but we’ll be right back again next week with a roundup that looks a lot like this one, albeit with new information that reflects the week we’re about to endure.
