Lots of MacDirtyCow exploit users are familiar with the Cowabunga add-on that permits all kinds of system customizations that would ordinarily only be possible with a jailbreak. But as many Cowabunga users already know, a Windows-based version of this tool has been under development for quite some time.
Over the weekend, iOS developer Avangelista took to the official Discord server to announce the release of Cowabunga Lite for Windows PCs, an add-on that provides system customization options from the comfort of your computer as opposed to being all on-device.
As you can see in the screenshot example above, Cowabunga Lite is a Windows-based program that, upon connecting your iPhone or iPad to your Windows computer, can be customized in various ways using device backups. Among the different ways you can customize the device are:
- Location simulation
- Icon theming
- Status Bar tweaks
- Control Center tweaks
- SpringBoard tweaks
- Internal tweaks
- And more…
Smaller updates are planned for the future so that it will have parity with the macOS version, which first launched back in May.
It’s worth noting that because this program uses device backups instead of any exploit, it works on all versions of iOS & iPadOS ranging from iOS 15 to iOS 17. Having said that, even if you have one of Apple’s latest iPhones, you can have some fun with this.
Now that there is a Windows version of this tool, it’s in the grasp of many more prospective users, including those who don’t own Mac computers.
