The stock Voice Memos app on the iPhone can be particularly useful for recording audio events, but it’s so non-discreet that anyone who sees your iPhone would be able to tell you were recording their voice.
A new and free jailbreak tweak called discreetVoiceMemos by iOS developer CydiaGeek tries to change all of that by making the use of the Voice Memos app more discreet. It does so by hiding some of the tell-take signs that you’re using the app, including:
- The voice memos waveform animation on the Lock Screen of a locked device
- The red Status Bar indicator elsewhere in iOS
Upon installing discreetVoiceMemos, the tweak has no options to configure. That’s because it gets straight to work and makes your use of the Voice Memos app more discreet without any intervention by the end user.
When you begin recording audio with the stock Voice Memos app post-installation, even you probably won’t be able to tell that your app is recording. The only way you’ll know for sure is to open the app and see that it’s still doing something in the background.
If you’re interested in giving the new discreetVoiceMemos tweak a try, then you can download it for free from the YouRepo repository. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS versions 8 through 16.
Anyone who isn’t already taking advantage of the YouRepo repository can add it to their package manager app of choice by using the URL provided below:

Note: Another version of this tweak is already available via the BigBoss repository. It is not the same tweak. This one we’re showing you today has been made without preferences to be simpler for the end user.
