Customize the look and behavior of Notification Center with Lace

Every department of iOS has its quirks that some users wished could look or behave a little bit differently. Sometimes those wishes can come true, as long as you’re jailbroken.

If you feel this way about Notification Center, then a new free jailbreak tweak dubbed Lace by iOS developer Andreas Henriksson might be worth looking into.

This tweak provides users with a number of aesthetic and convenience-based options so they can tailor Notification Center to their own specific needs.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings app where there’s a short list of options to configure:

Among the things you can configure via Lace are:

  • Hide the Spotlight search bar from both pages of Notification Center
  • Enable section changing simultaneously while dragging up or down
  • Automatically launch the Today section if you don’t have any missed Notifications
  • Choose the default section of Notification Center that always opens up no matter the circumstances
  • Hide or show the chevron icon in Notification Center

While the list isn’t overly-extensive, some of these features, such as automatic page selection based on whether you have missed notifications or not, are quite useful. Many of these options aren’t even available in paid packages like Springtomize 4, so rather than being a stale tweak with options that repetitive from tweaks of the past, Lace provides you with a fresh batch of options.

If you’re interested in trying Lace, you can download the tweak for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repository. It works on all jailbroken iOS 10 devices and is also open-sourced on GitHub for anyone who’s interested in learning more about what makes the tweak work.

What are your thoughts about the options Lace brings to the table? Share in the comments section below.
