Memes are fun to share with friends. Whether it’s an inside joke only your inner circle knows or something that speaks more of your culture, memes bring a special kind of fun. Not all of us have the artistic talents to create memes. That’s where a meme generator comes in. A meme generator does the legwork for you, putting together images and taglines that fit what you’re going for. To help you make amazing memes, we rounded up the best meme generators to try out on your Android tablet, phone, and Chromebook.
Our selection of meme generators doesn’t exclusively consist of apps. We also included some that work in your web browser.

When you need a versatile meme generator, Mematic comes to mind. You can download this as an app from the Google Play Store and the App Store. It’s free to use and doesn’t require a lot of steps. You can upload your photo or choose a pre-selected one in the app’s library. Mematic has quick styles. Experiment with the quick style selection if you’re unsure where to start making your first meme. But if you’re a meme Picasso, the app has enough layout tools for you to work with.
The app has a pro version that unlocks additional features and removes ads by paying monthly or annually. The extra features include more collage options, fonts, text colors, a custom color mixer, and a custom watermark. Otherwise, stick with the app’s core features free of charge.

Adobe |
Adobe’s meme generator is built into Adobe Express. You can access it through the app or via the web version. We prefer the web browser version since the app requires signing up. If you use Adobe Express, you can search for templates via the meme generator within the app. Otherwise, the web version has a dedicated section for memes. Adobe’s meme generator lets you customize the background color and text effects, making it flashier than other memes using the same template.
Based on our testing, the web browser’s meme generator is easier to find. You also don’t have to sign in to your account. You can access the meme generator’s tool as a guest. However, it asks you to sign in before sharing it. The tools Adobe offers are impressive, but it also means the memes you’ll create might differ from the norm.

ZomboDroid |
Having a friendly UI makes navigating these apps a straightforward experience. You don’t want to search every nook and cranny for all the custom options to tinker with your memes. This is where Meme Generator by ZomboDroid excels. The app has editable templates and custom memes. You can draw, sketch, and add text, stickers, and images on the same page.
The customization tools do not disappear from the page. You can browse the meme library or use an editable template, and the tools display below the meme. The Example button places pre-set text combinations to help you understand and explore a meme. It’s a decent app, but ads can be disruptive unless you upgrade to Meme Generator Pro.

Imgflip |
Imgflip is an easy-to-access meme generator with a dedicated app on the Google Play Store and can be accessed freely on the website. Imgflip is supported by ads, which are more noticeable on the website than in-app.
Imgflip’s simplistic UI for creating memes makes it a terrific entry as a meme generator. You can access the meme generator section on the website or tap Make a meme within the app. However, you must log in to save your creations. A fun feature in Imgflip is the AI Meme section. Use the classic model’s novice AI to get hilarious, nonsensical content. Use ChatGPT to put together captions for you. The AI feature is tied to the paid plans (we used the classic model on the free version and received errors after sending a prompt).
The Imgflip app has limited features if you use the free version. When you upgrade to the basic and pro version, you can turn off ads, remove the watermark on memes, and more. However, if you want a simple meme generator, Imgflip’s free version offers more than enough in its back pocket.

Memedroid is more than a meme-generator app and website. It’s community-focused, which is a big part of what makes memes uniquely special. However, the app caters to humor. Some memes that are shared might be hit or miss. Otherwise, it has a solid meme generator if you’re not into interacting with other memes.
Memedroid has ads, and it’s slightly more distracting than other options on this list. You can pay $3 to remove the ads. The customization tools for Memedroid are limited, as you can’t change much about the text’s appearance. However, it has a decent library of standard meme templates to use. Memedroid might not be the best meme generator for stylizing memes, but its sizeable community makes the app and website worth checking out.

Canva isn’t a full-on meme generator, but it has all the tools to make memes. Canva is an excellent photo-editing app that doesn’t require as much software knowledge compared to Adobe Photoshop and GIMP. Canva’s dedicated meme generator page makes it helpful for generating memes. You can ignore the Canva general photo-editing tools. Instead, go to this page and select Make a meme. From there, you can access various styles and templates, which you can customize and share with others.

Don’t dismiss Google Photos as an average photo editing app
Using Canva requires signing in to an account like Google, Facebook, Apple, or through email, which may be a deal-breaker for some. If you use Canva for other work, you don’t need to look for other meme generator alternatives. Canva has everything you need in one place, but some templates are locked behind a paywall.

Despite many memes using static images, you can turn memes into videos. What better way to do that than with easy-to-send GIFs? GIFS can enhance your memes, bringing a more dynamic flavor to your jokes, mood, and expression.
Giphy is a downloadable app that’s available on Android and iOS. The app has ads (they can be challenging to handle), which is why it’s free. Giphy can edit and share images, videos, stickers, and memes. If you want to generate quick memes on the go, the app has meme templates in a separate tab. Otherwise, you can get started via the Giphy website.

SupermemeAI Inc |
Supermeme.AI uses OpenAI’s GPT-3 and in-house images to generate meme captions and match them with corresponding templates. It also has an iOS app, but Android users must access the website. Supermeme.AI creates memes using generative AI by feeding them text, topics, or images while customizing them for a specific platform.
The downside to Supermeme.AI is that it’s a bit expensive, depending on the plan. The only difference between Supermeme.AI and free meme generators is this platform helps you create memes in bulk using generative AI. Still, checking out the cheapest plan might not be bad if you use memes for brand recognition. Sometimes, all it takes is a good meme to get someone’s attention. Memes generated with Supermeme.AI are also SFW (safe for work).
Share memes with everyone
Memes are a form of expression. They work in a similar vein as emoji reaction effects when sending messages. However, instead of using default options, memes can be tailor-made for humor. Memes are silly, but most importantly, they are memorable. This list gives you a nice headstart for making some newfound favorites.
