Samsung used an under-display camera for the inner folding screen on the last few generations of the Galaxy Z Fold. The Z Fold 7 changes that, ditching the Fold 6’s 4MP UDC in favor of a 10MP shooter.

While this switch means the Z Fold 7’s inner display has a small punch-hole cutout for the camera, it leads to a massive improvement in image quality.

The Z Fold 6’s 4MP UDC takes soft and murky images, with the low-light pictures barely usable.

Plus, the Fold 7’s 10MP camera features a wider 100-degree field of view (FoV), making it ideal for group calls and selfies.

With this upgrade, the Z Fold 7’s inner display camera will deliver image quality on par with its external counterparts.

A bigger and usable cover display

Samsung finally fixes the biggest drawback of its foldable

Despite its slimmer and lighter profile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 packs bigger displays than the Z Fold 6.

The inner folding screen has expanded in size from 7.6 inches to 8 inches, offering more room for viewing content and multitasking.

Samsung also increased the Fold 7’s cover display size to 6.5 inches, up from 6.3 inches on the Z Fold 6.

That’s despite Samsung widening the cover display with the Z Fold 6, which still fell short in delivering a comfortable typing or multitasking experience.

A big resolution jump for the primary camera

From 50MP to 200MP

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 ditches the Fold 6’s 50MP primary shooter in favor of a 200MP camera. Samsung claims the new higher-resolution sensor can capture up to 4x more detailed images that are 44% brighter.

This is likely the same sensor that Samsung uses on the Galaxy S25 Edge. If anything, it should allow the Z Fold 7 to capture photos nearly on par with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

While not the best, it will enable the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s camera to rival other camera-centric phones, at least in daylight.

The other rear cameras on the Z Fold 7 remain the same as those on the Fold 6: a 10MP 3x optical shooter and a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide.

Thanks to the new ProVisual engine and Night Video, Samsung’s newest foldable should capture cleaner pictures and less noisy videos than the Z Fold 6.

Built tougher than ever

Improved durability where it matters

Durability is a big concern with foldable phones. While the situation has improved over the years, a folding phone is still not as reliable as regular smartphones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 makes impressive improvements in this regard, even over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Firstly, it ships with a thinner and lighter Armor FlexHinge that uses a new multi-rail structure to reduce the display crease. Plus, it improves durability by dispersing stress evenly.

Third, the Z Fold 7 extends the use of Advanced Armor Aluminum to the frame and hinges, improving their strength and hardness by a claimed 10%.

Lastly, Samsung is using Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the Z Fold 7’s cover display, which boasts improved durability and protection against drops.

Given how delicate foldable screens are, every improvement matters. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 makes noticeable progress in this area, even over the Fold 6.

Slim and light

A big step up from the Z Fold 6

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is slim and light, and it’s Samsung’s slimmest and lightest foldable yet. While the company made the Z Fold 6 slimmer than its previous foldables, with the Z Fold 7, it has taken things to the next level.

The Z Fold 6 measures 12.1mm when folded and 5.6mm when unfolded, while the Z Fold 7 comes in significantly slimmer at 8.9mm folded and 4.2mm when unfolded.

Samsung’s newest foldable weighs 215 grams, while the Z Fold 6 weighs 239 grams. It’s lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which weighs 218 grams.

While not the slimmest or lightest foldable, the slimmer profile allows the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to better compete with rivals from Chinese companies, which heavily focus on their slim profiles.

On paper, the Fold 7’s sleek design and lighter weight may not seem like a big deal. However, in daily use, the difference is noticeable enough to justify upgrading from the Z Fold 6 to the Z Fold 7.

At first glance, you might think that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is just a slimmer and thinner Z Fold 6.
