How SentryOne Advocates for Veterans

Veterans Day 2020_ImageVeterans Day is an important holiday in which we honor our military veterans and recognize them for their service. The SentryOne team takes great pride in the fact that we currently employ 12 veterans (a little more than 9% of our workforce). This is well above the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program’s 2020 hiring benchmark of 5.7%. We also employ a handful of military spouses. We want to thank our employees who are veterans or military spouses for their service and for all their contributions toward making SentryOne the amazing company that it is.

As a company, we are always looking at ways to hire, support, and retain veterans. Here are a few of the ways in which we do so.

Partnering with Local Veteran Resource Groups

We partner with Veterans Bridge Home in Charlotte and the Fleet and Family Support Center of the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. By working with these important resources, we ensure that our company information and job openings get in front of potential veteran applicants.

Participating in Mock Interviews with Veterans Transitioning to Civilian Careers

I recently had the pleasure of participating in a mock interview session hosted by Patriots Path, a local non-profit that helps military personnel as they transition to civilian careers. The organization set up a Zoom call where different employers gave veterans the chance to practice their interviewing skills. This was a great experience, and I look forward to participating in more events like this in the future!

Supporting SentryOne’s Employee Veterans

SentryOne also has a few affinity (aka employee resource) groups, one being our S1VET group. This group meets at least monthly, and has a Slack channel, to discuss how we can support our veteran employees and the communities in which we work. This is also a place where our veterans (and any employees that are interested in attending) can connect and talk about their military experiences, upcoming community events, organizations that help veterans, and more!

Celebrating Veterans Throughout November 2020

The S1VET affinity group has planned a month full of activities to celebrate veterans for November. Each week, an employee from a different branch of the military will share an experience they had during their time serving. One of our military spouse employees will ask anyone in the company to share (via Slack) a story about a family member or friend who was in the military. We also surprised each of our veteran employees with a cool T-shirt and handwritten note from a member of our Senior Leadership team, thanking them for their service.
