Fun In The Sun: #SQLVacation Goes to Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach is the most populous city in Virginia, and holds the record for the longest pleasure beach in the world in the Guinness Book of World Records. Every year it holds the East Coast Surfing Championships as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championships. Virginia Beach is also home to Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment, which is dedicated to research and explore subjects such as holistic health, ancient mysteries, personal spirituality, dreams, intuition, philosophy, and reincarnation. You can also visit Cape Henry, the first landing site of the English colonists. If you’re there at the right time you can attend the Neptune Festival, which usually attracts 500,000+ visitors. Just a warning for those with sailor mouths, if you see a sign with symbols along the boardwalk its showcasing the law that prohibits profanity in that area.

Espresso Anyone?

What’s a normal week at work like for you? Performance Tuning for clients, I work from home now and LOVE IT!

What sort of career do you think you’d pursue today if you hadn’t chose IT? I wanted to be a business executive of some sort, never really figured out of what. Just wanted to wear a power suit and make the rules.

When did you come to the area? 20 years ago

What caused you to decide to help as a volunteer leader? Was asked to, I am active in community and when the past leader left he asked me to step up.

What is the IT community like in your town? Lots of government contract work and consultants. Never enough DBA’s to go around.

What do you enjoy doing in the area? Tourist Town Always has some special event going on. I love concerts on the beach.
