How to set opacity of a text canvas using Fabric.js ?

In this article, we are going to see how to set the opacity of a canvas-like text using FabricJS. The canvas means text written is movable, rotatable, resizable and can be stretched. Further, the text itself cannot be edited like a textbox.
Approach: To make it possible we are going to use a JavaScript library called FabricJS. After importing the library using CDN, we will create a canvas block in the body tag which will contain our text. After this, we will initialize instances of Canvas and Text provided by FabricJS and use the opacity property to set the opacity and render the Canvas on the Text as given in the example below.

Syntax:

 fabric.Text(text, opacity: number);

Parameters: This function accepts two parameters as mentioned above and described below:

  • text: It specifies the text to be written.
  • opacity: It specifies the opacity of our text.

Program: We can use FabricJS to set the opacity of a canvas-like text so that it is faded to half of it’s opacity as given below.

        style="border:1px solid #000000;">
    </canvas>

    <script>

        // Create a new instance of Canvas
        var canvas = new fabric.Canvas("canvas");

        // Create a new Text instance
        var text = new fabric.Text('neveropen', {
            opacity: 0.5
        });

        // Render the text on Canvas
        canvas.add(text);
    </script>
</body>

</html>
