CompositeName getPrefix() method in Java with Examples

The getPrefix() method of a javax.naming.CompositeName class is used to get a composite name object whose components consist of a prefix of the components in this composite name.The position at which we need to stop extracting the prefix from this composite name object is passed as a parameter. The returned composite name object and this composite name object share the same syntax. If we make any changes to this composite name that will not affect the name that is returned and vice versa.

Syntax:

public Name getPrefix(int posn)

Parameters: This method accepts posn which is the 0-based index of the component at which to stop. Must be in the range [0, size()].

Return value: This method returns a composite name consisting of the components at indexes in the range [0, posn).

Exception: This method throws ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException If posn is outside the specified range.

Below programs illustrate the CompositeName.getPrefix() method:
Program 1:

// Java program to demonstrate
// CompositeName.getPrefix()

import java.util.Properties;
import javax.naming.CompositeName;
import javax.naming.InvalidNameException;

public class GFG {
    public static void main(String[] args)
        throws InvalidNameException
    {

        // create composite name object
        CompositeName CompositeName1
            = new CompositeName(
                "aa/bb/cc/dd/ee/ff");

        // apply getPrefix()
        CompositeName newCompositeName
            = (CompositeName)
                  CompositeName1.getPrefix(2);

        // print value
        System.out.println(
            "New CompositeName Object: "
            + newCompositeName);
    }
}

Output:

New CompositeName Object: aa/bb

Program 2:

// Java program to demonstrate
// CompositeName.getPrefix() method

import java.util.Properties;
import javax.naming.CompositeName;
import javax.naming.InvalidNameException;

public class GFG {
    public static void main(String[] args)
        throws InvalidNameException
    {

        // create composite name object
        CompositeName CompositeName1
            = new CompositeName(
                "c/e/d/v/a/b/z/y/x/f");

        // apply getPrefix()
        CompositeName newCompositeName
            = (CompositeName)
                  CompositeName1.getPrefix(4);

        // print value
        System.out.println(
            "New CompositeName Object: "
            + newCompositeName);
    }
}

Output:

New CompositeName Object: c/e/d/v
