Make mobile Safari load faster with SafariBlankPage

Are you tired of waiting for web pages to reload every time you launch mobile Safari? If so, you might be interested in this new jailbreak tweak called SafariBlankPage, by Suu (the same developer who did Slide2Kill).

As its name indicates, the tweak forces Safari to open up to a blank page upon launch, meaning you don’t have to wait for anything to load. This allows you to quickly perform searches and open new websites…

If the premise sounds familiar, that’s because there is a non-jailbreak way to do this by creating a Home screen shortcut for the URL ‘about:blank.’ The tweak is a little more convenient though, as it works natively in Safari.

Once SafariBlankPage is installed, it takes effect—no options to configure here. And it only works upon a fresh launch. So if Safari is already open, tapping the Safari icon will open up the last page you looked at, like normal.

While I can see how this tweak could be very useful for some, I probably won’t be keeping it. I’m using Chrome as my default iOS browser right now, and since I use Velox, opening a new web page or search is just a swipe away.

But if you’d like to check it out for yourself, you can find SafariBlankPage in Cydia, in the BigBoss repo, for free.
