It’s no secret that the iPhone’s inbound call interface is
an intrusive pain in the butt. Not only does it take up the entire display, but
you can’t do away with it without first declining the phone call. Obvious much?
CallBar by Elias Limneos has long enjoyed being the premier solution to Apple’s horrendous inbound call interface on jailbroken handsets, but a new jailbreak tweak release dubbed Vocito by iOS developer Antique aims to increase the competition in this sector by introducing a minimalist alternative to CallBar.
As you can discern for yourself the screenshot examples
above, Vocito provides a simple interface with two buttons for answering or
declining a phone call and relevant information about the person on the other
line, such as their contact photo, name, and source of the call.
When you’re in the middle of an active call, the interface
changes slightly. It reveals buttons to hang up or mute the call, and relevant information
concerning the person on the other line, including their contact photo, name,
and the duration of the call.
After you’ve installed Vocito, you’ll find a dedicated
preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your
liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle Vocito on or off on demand
- Choose the theme you’d like to use:
- Light
- Dark
- Custom
You’ll want to use the blue Respring button at the bottom of
the preference pane whenever you make changes to ensure that they’re appended.
The developer did tell me that the tweak is still in beta,
and so bugs are to be expected. On the other hand, he’s actively improving the
tweak and adding new features, so we expect that most problems will be ironed
out within a couple of days or weeks.
If you’re interested in trying Vocito, then you can download it from Cydia’s Packix repository for $1.99. The tweak officially supports all jailbroken iOS 12 devices, but may also work on iOS 11.
