Substitute picks up more minor changes in new v2.0.5 update

If you use the unc0ver jailbreak, then you might recall a Substitute update that was released just yesterday evening, bringing the tweak injection package up to version 2.0.4. It was just one of several updates to be released since Substitute received its major v2.0 rebranding shortly after the start of the new year, but it would be far from the last…

This Thursday evening, Substitute received yet another update. The package now sports the version number 2.0.5, however for the average jailbreaker, this update isn’t quite as imperative as yesterday’s would have been.

For those who might be wondering, the official change log pertaining to Substitute v2.0.5 per the depiction page found on Sam Bingner’s repository cites the following changes:

Changes in Substitute 2.0.5 (1/14/2021)

– Add missing launch image for iPhone 6
– Fix detection of capabilities on Corellium
– Only prompt user to reboot if upgrading from prior to 2.0.4

Nothing in the aforementioned change log quite screams, “upgrade me immediately.” On the other hand, we always recommend keeping your software up to date. With that in mind, if you previously upgraded to Substitute v2.0 and didn’t experience issues with jailbreak tweaks or handset usability, then you should probably go ahead and install the latest version.

It’s worth noting that Substitute v2.0.5 has been made with the unc0ver jailbreak in mind. The Chimera and Odyssey jailbreaks each utilize libhooker for tweak injection, while the checkra1n jailbreak defaults to Cydia Substrate for the same purpose. Pwn20wnd and Sam Bingner ultimately chose Substitute for tweak injection after it was learned that Cydia Substrate wouldn’t be updated to support Apple’s latest devices because of complexity-centric issues.

Have you installed the latest version of Substitute on your unc0ver device yet, or are you using a different jailbreak? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.
