Pwn20wnd achieves rootfs remount with read/write privileges on A12(X)

Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd hasn’t made any significant revisions to the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release for a few days now, and as you might come to expect, that’s because he’s been busy attempting to pwn A12(X) devices.

If you fall under the category of ‘currently waiting for
A12(X) support,’ then you’ll be excited to hear that Pwn20wnd has made some progress.
A Tweet shared
Monday afternoon
reveals that the hacker has officially achieved a rootfs
remount with read and write privileges on his A12 test device:

This is huge. As you might recall, it wasn’t long after
someone achieved
a rootfs remount on iOS 12
that a
relevant public jailbreak came about
, so we expect that we’ll see similar
patterns in the A12(X) department so long as the current momentum continues.

In the meantime, we’d like to remind everyone to remain
patient as Pwn20wnd works toward his big-picture goal. While many are indeed
excited to jailbreak their iPhone XR, XS, or XS Max for the very first time, it’s
also worth noting that no
one wants to nagged for ETAs or harassed about early beta releases
. So
please, just go with the flow and keep it tuned to iDB for updates.

At the time of this writing, the latest version of the unc0ver jailbreak tool is version 3.0.0 beta 43, which incorporates the brand-new machswap exploit for A7-A9 devices. This exploit is oodles more reliable than the previous v1ntex and v3ntex exploits, and has therefore replaced them in unc0ver.

Furthermore, unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release is still a beta, and while it might
be tempting to hop onboard right now, we’d strongly advise waiting for the
official public release to prevent any possible bugs from manifesting.

Those already jailbroken
on iOS 12 with the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release are being advised to download and
run this update as soon as possible to take full advantage of the new features
and improvements.

The latest public release of the unc0ver jailbreak tool is v2.2.6 with
support for iOS 11.0-11.4 beta 4 – the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release is the only
iteration that supports iOS 11.4-11.4.1. Both versions of the unc0ver jailbreak
tool can be had
from Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository
.
