Prevent Now Playing apps from being killed via the App Switcher with DontKillMyMusic

Do you ever launch your App Switcher and start swiping away at apps until there’s nothing left? Despite how unnecessary people claim this to be, it’s common practice for folks to habitually clear apps when not in use. But the real problem manifests itself when you accidentally kill an app that’s playing music in the background. Yeah… frowny pants.

A new free jailbreak tweak called DontKillMyMusic by iOS developer Karimo299 aims to prevent this dilemma by empowering users with the ability to designate which apps can and can’t be killed via the App Switcher.

Once installed, DontKillMyMusic adds a preference pane to
the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable tweak on demand
  • Toggle app locking on or off
  • Choose which apps are locked with DontKillMyMusic
  • Blacklist specific apps

The developer provides two essential buttons at the bottom
of the preference pane, including one that lets you reset all the settings to
their defaults, and another that lets you respring your device. The latter is
important for saving any changes you make to the tweak’s preferences.

What we particularly like about DontKillMyMusic is that users can manually designate apps that they want to prevent from being killed via the App Switcher. This means that you could use the tweak for non-Now Playing-related apps as well, such as those that run background processes when not in use.

Those who want to give DontKillMyMusic a try can download it for free from the Packix repository.. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices and should also play nicely with A12(X) devices that have been pwned via the Electra Team’s new Chimera jailbreak.

Will you be downloading DontKillMyMusic? Let us know why or
why not in the comments section below.
