PokeBar brings classic Pokémon-inspired notification banners to iOS 13

Longtime Pokémon game fans, especially of the classic Nintendo Game Boy flavor, may feel a bit nostalgic of the older games at times. Fortunately, if you’re itching for some nostalgic relief and you have a jailbroken iOS device at your disposal, then a newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed PokeBar by iOS developer Liberato Aguilar might be able to help.

In the rather conspicuous screenshots above and below, you might’ve ascertained already that PokeBar brings Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow-inspired notification banners to pwned iOS 13 handsets. Moreover, it supports both dark and light themes, depending on your device’s dark mode system settings.

If you couldn’t already tell from the examples, PokeBar supports stacked notifications via the Lock screen/Notification Center and also throughout iOS as floating notification banners at the top of the display.

The banners are designed to look just like the classic message bar in the popular Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow games for the Nintendo Game Boy, where text readouts would appear when engaging in dialogues with characters in the game. The developer even uses a similar font, made possible by Jackster Productions.

PokeBar doesn’t come with any options to configure at this time, as it relies solely on your handset’s system settings to switch between dark and light mode automatically. On the other hand, the developer seems to be planning updates to the tweak in the future that could add more features down the road.

Those interested in giving PokeBar a try can download it for free from the Packix repository via their preferred package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices only, and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page.
