Give your pwned iPhone quirky aesthetics with FireflyX

If you’re jailbroken and you’re ready to do away with the same-old boring iOS interface that you’ve been gawking at for years, then you might take a liking to a newly released jailbreak tweak called FireflyX by iOS developer Sirius24.

FireflyX empowers jailbreakers with the ability to customize their device’s aesthetics at the molecular level with colorful borders, underglows, and animations, among other things. These effects are applicable to a several of user interface elements including the Home screen’s app icons, Dock, Folders, and even the notification banners or widgets that appear in the Today view.

For those curious about what FireflyX might look like, the sample screenshots provided both above and below will give you an idea:

If FireflyX seems familiar to you, then that’s because it’s not the first iteration of the tweak. Firefly was the original tweak by Sirius24 that was released just under a year ago, and its scope was rather limited compared to that of FireflyX.

In terms of aesthetic jailbreak tweaks like this one, some will like what they see in our examples, and others will hate it. With that in mind, we’d like to remind that FireflyX is fully customizable and that you can configure it with your preferred colors and effects to get the unique look and feel you’re going for.

Upon installing FireflyX, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app with a plethora of options to tinker with:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle FireflyX on or off on demand
  • Configure your Glows preferences
  • Configure your Animations preferences
  • Configure your Icon Borders preferences
  • Enable or disable folders
  • Enable or disable the showing of badge notifications
  • Enable or disable app icon labels

Digging deeper, you’ll find more fine-grained options to configure. We’ll outline those for you below:

Glows

In the Glows preference pane, you can:

  • Configure a preferred icon glow color for notifications
  • Configure a preferred folder glow color
  • Enable or disable adaptive icon color
  • Enable and configure old style color glow
  • Configure a blacklist for icon glow color for notifications
  • Apply glowing to all app icons
  • Configure a blacklist for icon glow color for all apps
  • Enable and configure a Notification banner glow
  • Enable and configure a folder background glow
  • Enable and configure a Dock glow
  • Enable or disable Today widget glow

Animations

In the Animations preference pane, you can:

  • Enable or disable animations on demand
  • Configure a preferred animation color
  • Enable or disable animated folder glow
  • Enable or disable animating all app icons
  • Configure a preferred animation style:
    • Standard glow
    • Multi-colors
    • Blink
    • Border blink
    • Icon expand
    • Icon rotate
  • Configure an animation duration

Borders

In the Borders preference pane, you can:

  • Enable or disable app icon borders
  • Configure a preferred app icon border color
  • Adjust the app icon border color opacity
  • Configure a blacklist for app icon border coloring
  • Configure a whitelist for app icon border coloring

The developer provides a Respring button in the primary preference pane where you can save all changes you make to the tweak’s settings.

If you like the way iOS looks out of the box, then the heavy customization effects of FireflyX might not be for you. On the other hand, those looking for a fresh new aesthetic for their iOS device will probably enjoy customizing FireflyX and witnessing the fun and quirky effects that it brings.

Those interested in trying FireflyX can purchase it for $1.99 from the Packix repository via their preferred package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 11-13 devices, and if you already own the previous version of Firefly, then FireflyX is 50% for you.

Will you be colorizing your iOS handset with FireflyX? Discuss why or why not in the comments section below.
