Give your 3D Touch menus a makeover with Baylor

You can press firmly on your Home screen’s app icons on any 3D Touch-compatible handset to access handy shortcuts pertaining to that specific app, and while they can be useful at times, it’s equally valid that Apple provides little or no customizability in this department.

If you’re in the market for a way to make your handset’s 3D Touch menus stand out from the rest of the crowd, then you just might come to appreciate a newly-released jailbreak tweak called Baylor by iOS developer dpkg_.

As you’ll see in the screenshot examples above, Baylor can be used to make your 3D Touch menus look different than they would out of the box on a stock handset, and as you’re about to see, it has no shortage of options.

Once installed, Baylor puts a preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Reduce the background blur effect
  • Make the 3D Touch gesture faster
  • Reverse the order of the menu items
  • Move the menu icons to the left
  • Hide the ‘Share App’ option from the menu
  • Hide the separator lines from the menu
  • Make the Springboard icon bigger
  • Disable animations
  • Make the menu squarer
  • Split widgets
  • Ignore the first touch after opening a 3D Touch menu

The developer provides a Respring button at the top right of the preference pane that you can use to save your changes, and while the developer advises that a respring isn’t necessary, it’s still a good idea to follow this practice as you would with any other tweak.

Even if your handset doesn’t support 3D Touch out of the box, you can still use Baylor in tandem with a 3D Touch porting tweak to make even an iPhone 6 or earlier compatible with it. Baylor supports all jailbroken iOS 10, 11, and 12 devices, and if you’re interested in trying it out for yourself, then you can purchase it for $0.99 from the Packix repository in Cydia or Sileo.

Will you be tweaking your handset’s 3D Touch menus with Baylor? Tell us why or why not in the comments section below.
