FlashNotify ensures you never forget when your iPhone’s flashlight is on

If a notched iPhone is your daily driver, then you might be familiar with just how easy it is to accidentally activate the rear-facing LED flashlight from the Lock Screen. Even more annoying is when it’s a bright and sunny day outside and you can’t see that you have the flashlight feature turned on, therefore forgetting all about it and imposing unnecessary battery drain on your device.

FlashNotify is a newly released and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Greg0109 that was created to prevent the two aforementioned scenarios from happening to you. As the tweak’s name implies, FlashNotify works by notifying you when you forget to turn off your handset’s rear-facing flash and provides intelligent features for turning it off when this happens.

In the screenshot example above and to the left, you’ll see the FlashNotify notification in all its glory. Tapping on the notification automatically turns the rear-facing flash off, making it easy to prevent battery drain from such a simple and embarrassing mistake.

Once installed, FlashNotify adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure the tweak’s options to their liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle FlashNotify on or off on demand
  • Configure a time delay before the tweak notifies you that you left your flashlight on:
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes
    • 15 minutes
  • Choose whether FlashNotify reminds you when you leave your flashlight on after charging
  • Configure a time delay for this feature:
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes
    • 15 minutes
  • Choose whether FlashNotify automatically turns your flashlight off for you
  • Configure a time delay for this feature:
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes
    • 15 minutes

The developer provides a Respring button at the top right of the preference pane for saving any settings you configure.

In many cases, it’s obvious when you forget to turn your iPhone’s rear-facing flash off or toggle it on by accident. The only circumstance where this might go unnoticed is when you’re outside and the Sun is too bright to see the rear-facing LED screaming. This has personally happened to me while working on my car’s engine and using my iPhone as a flashlight, and I sure wish I had this tweak when that happened…

Those interested in trying FlashNotify can download it for free from the Packix repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports all jailbroken devices running any firmware version ranging from iOS 7 to iOS 13.

Do you plan to install FlashNotify as cheap insurance for your handset’s battery, or are you confident enough that you’ll never accidentally toggle your iPhone’s flashlight without knowing? Let us know your position in the comments section below.
