While much of the modern jailbreak community is currently focusing on current firmware versions like iOS & iPadOS 13 and 14, that hasn’t stopped the Chimera Team from launching a new beta version of its iOS 12-centric Chimera jailbreak tool.
Chimera Team lead developer CoolStar took to the Announcements section of the official Discord channel bright and early Monday morning to share links to Chimera v1.5.0 beta 1 — the latest public beta of the jailbreak tool for iOS 12 devices:
Perhaps the biggest change in this new Chimera beta build is the addition of of the Procursus bootstrap for new Chimera users, which means full libhooker support for tweak injection and other beneficial performance gains. Unfortunately for those already using Chimera, this initial beta doesn’t yet provide migrations; this means that anyone already jailbroken via Chimera only gets the Chimera bootstrap with a libhooker hybrid if they run the latest beta (for now).
Obviously, CoolStar and the rest of the Chimera Team intend to include migrations to the Procursus bootstrap with full fledged libhooker tweak injection in a future update. It would likely come by way of a second public beta, but should almost certainly ship with the next official public release.
In addition to the upgraded bootstrap, Chimera v1.5.0 beta 1 purportedly incorporates a plethora of fixes and improvements that have been carefully backported from the newer iOS & iPadOS 13-centric Odyssey jailbreak. This means that Chimera v1.5.0, when officially released to the public after the beta period, should be substantially more stable than the current public release at the time of this writing.
The Chimera jailbreak supports iOS 12.0-12.4 on all A7-A11-equipped devices and iOS 12.0-12.1.2 on all A12-equipped devices. From what we can gather, iOS 12.1.3 and later are not supported on A12 devices by Chimera and iOS 12.4.1 is not currently supported on any device by Chimera. CoolStar also noted in the announcement that Chimera will never support iOS 12.1.3-12.4.1 on A12 devices, but the statement doesn’t seem to exclude the possibility of iOS 12.4.1 support on older devices.
Given that this is a public beta and not an official public release, we’d advise caution to all users to might be thinking about downloading and installing the latest version of Chimera on their iOS 12 device. Unless you’re an advanced jailbreaker or developer and know what you’re doing in the unlikely event that something goes wrong, the best thing to do would be to wait for the official public release.
Those interested in trying the latest public beta despite all warnings may find the download links in the official Discord channel.
