In some of the more recent versions of the official YouTube app, it seems that the app developers have replaced the Explore tab with the newer Shorts tab in an effort to push YouTube’s new Shorts feature on more users.
I for one don’t find YouTube Shorts to be all that interesting. In fact, I really only use YouTube for full-length videos.
Those who agree with the above sentiment may be in the market for a jailbreak tweak that returns the YouTube app to its original pre-Shorts state. Fortunately, that’s exactly what a new and free release called YTReExplore by iOS developer PoomSmart does.
As you can see for yourself in the before (left) and after (right) screenshot examples above, shared first on /r/jailbreak, YTReExplore simply replaces the YouTube app’s Shorts tab with the Explore tab, the latter of which focuses more on popular content that takes your interests and subscriptions into account.
If you’re not into YouTube’s Shorts feature, then the Explore tab has more to offer as it can result in content creator discovery and help you expand your subscription list with things that interest you.
If you’re interested in giving the new YTReExplore tweak a try, then you can download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via your package manager of choice. This tweak supports jailbroken iOS 11, 12, 13, and 14 devices running the official YouTube app and doesn’t have any options to configure.
Those who aren’t already using PoomSmart’s personal repository can add it to their favorite package manager app with the following URL:
