Among some of my favorite activities to do on my iPhone when I’m bored and trying to pass time is watch videos. My hardline video consumption in these moments has exposed a myriad of pitfalls with the native iOS video player, many of which are remediable by way of jailbreak tweaks.
In this roundup, we’ll show you what we believe are some of the best jailbreak tweaks for enhancing the video playback experience on jailbroken iOS 14 devices.
The best video player jailbreak tweaks
Ambience – $3.99
When you’re really trying to sense that fourth dimension while watching your favorite movies or videos in iOS 14, the Ambience jailbreak tweak will make it that much easier to do.
Ambience accompanies your video playback with surround lighting, utilizing your home’s HomeKit RGB lighting accessories to match the colors of your video playback. Think of it like surround sound, but with light.

BackgroundPiP – FREE
Videos that you play with iOS’ Picture-in-Picture mode are doomed to stop playing when you lock your device. Apple changed this in iOS 15, but those jailbroken on iOS 14 who want the same experience can use a jailbreak tweak called BackgroundPiP to get it.
Once installed, videos playing via Picture-in-Picture mode can continue playing in the background after you’ve locked your device. It’s perfect for when you play a video that you want to listen to the audio of while conserving your device’s battery with the display turned off.

CustoMedia – FREE
CustoMedia is a free jailbreak tweak that lets users customize the aesthetics of their handset’s native video player by adding a splash of color.
The tweak provides a seemingly endless number of color-centric settings that can be configured to the user’s liking, allowing you to create the perfect look and feel that you won’t find anywhere else.

AVTools – FREE
AVTools is another incredible jailbreak tweak for the iPhone’s video player because it makes it easier to lock your handset’s current display orientation while watching a video, and the ability to skip ahead a custom amount of time.
I find the first feature valuable while watching videos in bed, since I tend to switch positions a lot and don’t like having the orientation inadvertently flip when I don’t expect it to. The second feature is obviously useful, as it lets you get to your favorite part in a video faster.

SlowMo – FREE
The video player in the Photos app is separate from the video player used by the rest of iOS 14. This means that the features are different from one video player to the next.
Still, you can take advantage of a free jailbreak tweak called SlowMo to adjust the playback speed of videos saved in the native Photos app, allowing you to view them faster or slower just as you can with YouTube videos.

AVPhotos – FREE
And as we mentioned above with the Photos app having its own deviated video player separate from the one used by the rest of iOS, you can change that with the likes of the AVPhotos jailbreak tweak.
Once installed, videos played via the native Photos app will play in the native video player instead of the specialized one that seems to be made especially for the Photos app. Having this tweak also means that most of the other jailbreak tweaks in this list will apply to videos played via the Photos app, including Picture-in-Picture support.

Atlas – $0.99
Those who embrace minimalism will appreciate the likes of a free jailbreak tweak dubbed Atlas, which minimizes the number of UI elements cluttering up the native video player on the iOS 14 platform.
Once installed, playback buttons appear at the center of the screen, and a few necessary controls appear around the perimeter, but the end result is a cleaner look.

OkReplay – FREE
If you ever find yourself coming up on the end of a video in your Camera Roll and wish it wouldn’t have stopped playing, then you might appreciate the likes of a free jailbreak tweak called OkReplay.
This simple jailbreak tweak allows looping of video playback in the Photos app, which means you aren’t required to tap play over and over again when you feel like re-watching that hilarious short clip you recorded over and over again.

AV Orientation Lock – FREE
Because I absolutely hate when my iPhone changes the video orientation on me when I’m in bed, I can appreciate the AV Orientation Lock jailbreak tweak, which adds a dedicated orientation lock button the native video player interface in iOS 14.
This orientation lock button is separate from the one in Control Center that applies systemwide. So if you’re like me and don’t regularly use rotation lock, but would find it useful under niche circumstances such as watching videos, then the AV Orientation Lock tweak is certainly the way to go.

Conclusion
That unfortunately brings us to the end of our video player jailbreak tweak roundup, but we expect that we’ll be back again next week with a similar roundup, albeit with a focus on a different facet of the iOS 14 mobile operating system.
