RouteConfigurator lets jailbreakers choose their favorite audio device on a per-app basis

Depending on how you use your iPhone or iPad, you might have a preferred way to listen to audio in one app that differs from how you listen to audio in another app. For example, you might prefer using a Bluetooth speaker for the Music app, but prefer using your AirPods to listen to YouTube video how-tos, etc.

While the concept seems niche, it actually tends to be a somewhat common principle among iPhone and iPad owners. iOS developer ginsudev recognized this early in the game and released a new and free jailbreak tweak called RouteConfigurator to help users automate the process of using their preferred audio route method in various apps.

Once installed, RouteConfigurator lets users choose their preferred audio route method on a per-app basis. The tweak is based on a CCSupport toggle that users can tap on to set their preferred audio route method for the currently-opened app, like so:

As you can see, the audio route list includes possible devices such as:

  • HomePods or other speakers
  • AirPods or other headphones
  • The iPhone’s built-in speaker
  • And more… if applicable

Users can also reset their audio route preference for the currently-opened app with the Reset for app option in the list. This allows iOS to go back to using the default audio route for that specific app only.

Since RouteConfigurator is a CCSupport-based add-on, users will need to visit the Settings -> Control Center preference pane post-installation to make sure that they enable the RouteConfigurator add-on in Control Center. Once complete, the icon appears in Control Center as expected — it’s the one that looks to be half of a settings cog and half of an AirPlay icon.

If you’re interested in taking greater control over which audio route your individual apps use when launched, then the new RouteConfigurator jailbreak tweak is available as a free download from ginsudev’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 13 and 14 devices.

Those not already taking full advantage of ginsudev’s personal repository can add it to their package manager app of choice via the following URL:

How will you configure your apps’ audio routes on your pwned handset with the new RouteConfigurator tweak? We’re excited to hear from you in the comments section down below.
