Jailbreakers using older versions of iOS, especially the likes of iOS 13, may recognize a problem with AirPods firmware version 5b58 that results in an unexpected crash of bluetoothd while using the accessory.
This frustrating issue affects multiple AirPods models and results in media playback problems for users. While Apple should be the party providing an official patch, it seems that the jailbreak community is out with a fix first.
Enter bluetooth_fix, a free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Potatso that addresses this bug in AirPods firmware 5b58 and prevents the aforementioned crash from occurring.
According to multiple comments in the /r/jailbreak release post, bluetooth_fix is an effective fix. With that in mind, anyone with reservations about using a third-party patch should find the fix useful, at least until Apple addresses the problem themselves (if they do).
Since Apple is obviously testing most of its software on the latest version(s) of iOS, it’s easy to see how a bug with an AirPods firmware update on iOS 13 might’ve been missed. Still, the company should do customers right and fix it.
Those interested in giving bluetooth_fix a try can download it for free from Potatso’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. Please note that the developer recommends rebooting your device after installing. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page.
