If you have a jailbroken iOS 16 handset thanks to palera1n, then you might be excited to learn that you may be able to use one of my favorite jailbreak tweaks, checkl0ck, to enable a native passcode or biometric authentication (such as Touch ID or Face ID) user experience.
Just this weekend, checkl0ck received an update to version 1.5.0 that added support for iOS 16.0-16.1.2, which means that even A10 and A11 chip equipped devices on iOS 16 that couldn’t set a passcode with palera1n can finally do so.
Notably, iOS 16.2 and later isn’t supported because the developer cites an issue with Substitute tweak injection and an iCloud daemon.
Other changes in checkl0ck v1.5.0 include the following:
- Fix a crash in certain apps
- Fix an issue where the Status Bar lock icon wouldn’t appear on iOS 15-equipped Touch ID devices
- Fix an issue where biometric authentication wouldn’t work in certain apps
The checkl0ck jailbreak tweak was initially released almost a year ago, and while it was originally intended for the checkra1n jailbreak, it has ported over quite nicely for users of the palera1n jailbreak on newer firmware versions.
The newfangled iOS 16.0-16.1.2 support comes approximately two months after the developer rolled out initial iOS 15 support.
Installing and using checkl0ck means that you can add a barrier of protection between your Lock Screen and your data by forcing whoever picks up your device to authenticate themselves with a passcode or biometric authentication. Non-jailbreakers take this for granted, but checkra1n and palera1n users with A10 or A11 devices can’t without a tweak like checkl0ck because of security mitigations implemented by Apple.
If you’re an existing owner of the checkl0ck jailbreak tweak, then version 1.5.0 is a free update that you can take advantage of right now. Alternatively, you can purchase checkl0ck for $2.99 from the Havoc repository via your favorite package manager app.
Will you be taking advantage of checkl0ck now that it can be used with iOS 16.0-16.1.2 devices? Let us know in the comments section down below.
