The palera1n team released a major update for its palera1n-c checkm8 bootrom exploit-based jailbreak tool for A9-A11 devices running iOS 15.0-16.3 over the weekend, bringing it up to version 2.0.0 beta 1 with a substantial list of changes including a full C-based re-write.
But as you might come to expect from such a big update, it wouldn’t be long before the palera1n team would release subsequent updates with last-minute bug fixes and improvements.
The second beta of palera1n-c incorporated a fix so that fakeFS could be generated on 16GB devices running iOS 15 with -B -f added to the command. Subsequently, a third beta of palera1n-c added the following changes:
– Fix palera1n-ios entitlements
– Fix A8(X) fakeFS
– bindFS (experimental, may not work with iOS 16) (this was available on beta 2, just didn’t announce it until beta 3)-B, --setup-fakefs-partialLike-c, --setup-fakefsbut the size of the created fakeFS is smaller at the expense of having non-writable parts in rarely-written paths. (good for 16 GB devices) (This means tweaks that would be stored in bindFS’s Read Only directories, such as /System/Library/Fonts will not work)
The C-based re-write of the palera1n jailbreak promises improved reliability, performance, and faster jailbreaking. These upgrades are the start of making palera1n more user-friendly, but it’s worth noting that palera1n is still considered to be a developer-centric jailbreak tool at this time.
The latest version of palera1n-c is available from the project’s GitHub page, and it’s only intended for older handsets such as the iPhone X and older.
