New upsidedowned tweak enables upside-down orientation on jailbroken iPhones

While you can sometimes rotate your iPhone left or right to enter landscape orientation in many apps, the iPad is the only device that supports multi-directional rotation to include upside-down orientation.

If you’ve ever wanted to change that about your iPhone, then iOS developer Huy Nguyen (@Little_34306) is out this week with a new jailbreak tweak called upsidedowned that lets you rotate any app you might be using into upside-down mode.

While the specific use cases for this tweak may seem limited at first glance, think about all the times you might’ve tried to use an app, but the iPhone’s notch got in the way of what you were viewing. With the ability to rotate your iPhone upside-down and have the app follow this orientation, you get a notchless screen for an unimpeded viewing experience.

It’s worth mentioning that upsidedowned will not work on the Home Screen, and that on devices that have a Dynamic Island, the Dynamic Island will not follow the orientation switch. For that reason, we think it makes most sense on notched devices only, although it is compatible with both notched and Dynamic Island-equipped devices.

The developer provides a great example of this in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) early Sunday morning, and my opinion is that there are certain circumstances where it can benefit the user experience and other circumstances where it just seems niche.

Nguyen says that they made upsidedowned with code borrowed from the TrollPad jailbreak tweak that we showed you earlier this morning. We asked, and Nguyen said they have permission from the TrollPad developer (@TranKha50277352) to use this code, as they’re good friends with one another.

Those interested in giving upsidedowned a try can acquire the .deb file for free from the developer’s GitHub page and then install it with their preferred package manager app, be it Sileo or Zebra. The tweak supports only jailbroken iOS 15, 16, and 17 devices.

Are you planning to enable upside-down orientation on your pwned iPhone with the upsidedowned jailbreak tweak? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
