Just last week, we showed you a package manager app for MacDirtyCow exploit-susceptible devices called Misakathat could be used to install add-ons for customizing the iOS user interface, and we walked you through the process to install and use it.
This morning, we’re excited to report that there have been a couple of updates to Misaka since that time, bringing the app up to version 1.8.7 beta.
At the time that we showed you Misaka, the package was at version 1.8.5 beta. But on Saturday, project developer @straight_tamago released version 1.8.6 beta with general bug fixes, and then the next day released version 1.8.7 with the following more specific changes:
- Data storage location changed
- Address a crash when opening tweak settings
- Fixing the user interface
- Adding an enabler_toggle confirmation
As you might be able to tell from the brief change log, these updates are small in nature and attempt to improve the user experience in various ways, from boosting the user interface to addressing instabilities.
If you’re an existing Misaka user, then you’ll be prompted to install the update before you can continue using the app. The prompt looks like the one below:
Updating is simple — upon tapping the “Yes” button in the prompt, you’re taken to the Discord channel where you can acquire the latest .ipa and download and install it either via TrollStore or some other sideloading method such as AltStore or Sideloadly.
We have an in-depth tutorial showcasing how you can install and use Misaka, but please be mindful to remember that the add-ons are for the MacDirtyCow exploit only present in iOS & iPadOS versions 15.0-16.1.2.
