Keeping track of all the latest things to surface in the jailbreak community these days is tough work, and it’s even harder when you’ve got a busy life to contend with. That’s why iDB comes at you every Sunday morning with roundups just like this one to help you find out what’s happening in the iPhone hacking community lately.
In this roundup, we’ll discuss the latest developments to take place from Monday, February 27th to Sunday, March 5th. While some of these topics may be jailbreak-related, other topics may touch on security research, sideloading, MacDirtyCow, and TrollStore among other things. So without further ado, let’s jump right in!
Important tidbits from this week
XinaA15 v1.1.7.1 update
The XinaA15 jailbreak tool for arm64e devices running iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 was updated to a new public beta version on Monday that brought it up to version 1.1.7.1, and then updated a second time on Friday to version 1.1.7.2 with more bug fixes.
While this jailbreak is primarily for developers at this time, anyone who is already using the jailbreak is recommended to download and install the latest version at their earliest convenience.
You can learn more about what’s new in the latest version of the XinaA15 jailbreak tool in our full news post.
State of iOS 16 firmware downgrades
FutureRestore project contributor Cryptiiiic shared some upsetting news this past week about the state of firmware downgrades for iOS & iPadOS 16 users that will primarily affect users of A12 chip or newer-equipped handsets.
According to them, downgrades may no longer be possible on those devices, but checkm8-compatible devices (A11 chip or older) should still be fine to downgrade.
You can learn more about the announcement and find out what this all means in our full news post.
Antoine system log viewer
Antoine is a sexy new system log viewer for jailbroken and non-jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 13.0-16.2 devices that allows you to either view and sort saved system logs or stream them in real-time.
Antoine can be installed on jailbroken iOS or iPadOS 13.0-16.2 devices via a package manager app, but it can also be installed on non-jailbroken iOS 14.0-15.4.1 (and some 15.5 and 15.6 beta) devices by way of the TrollStore perma-signing utility.
You can learn more about Antoine and how it looks and works in our full review post.
Cowabunga v8.1.0
Cowabunga, perhaps one of the most popular all-in-one UI customization apps for TrollStore and MacDirtyCow exploit-susceptible devices, was updated to version 8.1.0 this past week.
While Cowabunga v8.1.0 adds a lot of changes, perhaps the most important is the ability to use custom fonts.
You can learn more about what’s new in Cowabunga v8.1.0 in our full news post.
BigSurCenter gets iOS 16 support
One of the most popular jailbreak tweaks for customizing Control Center just got better as BigSurCenter now supports iOS & iPadOS 16.
With this tweak, you can enjoy a macOS Big Sur-inspired Control a center user interface on your pwned device.
You can learn more about the BigSurCenter jailbreak tweak in our full review post.
Everything else from this week
SecondHand: A neat TrollStore add-on that adds a seconds indicator to the Status Bar’s time display and the date to the breadcrumb links spot (review post)
StepUp-Rootless: The rootless edition of the popular StepUp jailbreak tweak that lets you customize the impact that each volume button press has on your handset’s volume level (free via ETHN’s personal repository — review post)
That brings us to the end of this weekend’s jailbreaking and iPhone hacking news roundup, but we’ll be right back again next Sunday with another roundup that looks just like this one, albeit with refreshed content to reflect the times we’re about to experience in the coming work week.
