Jailbreak news of the week: iOS 17.1.1 released, Misaka v3, LocationSimulator, & more…

Having coverage of the latest iPhone and iPad hacking and jailbreaking news as it happens is our specialty, but outside of that, we also recognize how most people lead busy lives and can’t keep their eyes glued to their phone or computer all day long waiting for news.

Weekly jailbreak news roundup.Weekly jailbreak news roundup.

For this reason, the iDB staff curate a weekly roundup that launches every Sunday morning to recap everything discussed in this space from the following week. The idea being to ensure our readers stay apprised of the latest developments in the community as of late.

In this roundup, we will discuss the latest changes in the community spanning the week of Monday, November 6th to Sunday, November 12th.

Important stuff from this week

iOS & iPadOS 17.1.1 released

Apple releases iOS 17.1.1.Apple releases iOS 17.1.1.

Apple on Tuesday released the iOS & iPadOS 17.1.1 software updates for iPhones and iPads respectively, which add bug fixes and improvements to each of the platforms.

Obviously, both updates are also not recommended for jailbreakers since more bug fixes mean that the updates have fewer holes for possible future jailbreaks. Having said that, it’s a good idea to avoid this update if you have any hope of jailbreaking in the future.

The Misaka package manager app was updated to version 3.0 this week with a major overhaul for users and developers alike.

Misaka also received a plethora of smaller updates throughout the week with new features and improvements, including security patches.

You can learn more about those updates below:

LocationSimulator

The new LocationSimulator add-on allows users to spoof their location without a jailbreak, using nothing else than a map to mark the location where they’d like their iPhone to think they are.

The add-on tricks your apps into thinking you’re somewhere you aren’t, which depending on your needs, could be a valuable asset.

Joutai

Joutai is a new add-on for MacDirtyCow & kfd exploit-vulnerable devices that lets you replace certain elements of the iOS Status Bar with other, and potentially more coveted items.

For example, you can replace the battery level indicator with a weather readout, or the carrier name with your current memory or storage usage.

You can learn more about Joutai and how it works in our full review post.

4K UHD Emojis

You can use a new add-on for the MacDirtyCow & kfd exploits to unlock 4K ultra-high definition Emojis on your iPhone or iPad.

Normally, Emojis are quite small and can’t be enlarged or details aren’t as pretty as they could be. With 4K UHD, that all changes.

You can learn more about this add-on in our full review post.

Helium

Helium is a new add-on for both TrollStore-capable and jailbreakable devices that adds a heads-up display below the Status Bar with more information that might be useful to end users.

The different kinds of information you can add here are informative, but currently limited. The developer says there are plans to add more widgets in the future as updates roll out.
