Weekly jailbreak news roundup.Weekly jailbreak news roundup.

If you’ve had trouble following along with it all, then don’t fret, because we’re here to help.

In today’s roundup, iDB will discuss all the latest trends in the iPhone hacking community spanning the week of Monday, January 9th to Sunday, January 15th.

Important stuff from this week

Get the Dynamic Island on all non-jailbroken iOS 16.0-16.1.2 devices

With a new MacDirtyCow add-on for non-jailbroken iOS 16.0-16.1.2 devices called DynamicCow, users can unofficially enable the official Dynamic Island functionality on any device running this firmware range. This cannot be installed on iOS 15 or lower.

This works by enabling the stock Dynamic Island functionality on the device in question, so it looks and feels exactly like the real thing. Of course, it must be sideloaded, and resets after a reboot.

You can learn more about DynamicCow in our full review post.

XinaA15 v1.1.6.2 update

The XinaA15 jailbreak for A12-A15 devices running iOS 15.0-15.1.1 received an update to version 1.1.6.2 with various changes.

This version removes all package managers, so users will need to install a special build of Sileo that blocks official Procursus updates.

You can learn more about the changes and why they’re happening in our full news post.

Google Project Zero security researcher Ian Beer shared a write-up with a proof of concept (PoC) of the MacDirtyCow bug for iOS & iPadOS 16.0-16.1.2 that appears to be grabbing some attention from the community.

According to security researcher Zhuowei Zhang, the bug may be more powerful than originally thought.

The iPod Nano 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation now have a low-level hardware-based bootrom exploit called wInd3x that can’t be patched via a software update from Apple.

This exploit can be used with the freemyipod toolkit, but what exactly you can do with it remains unseen. A constant connection over USB is necessary to run code, which means this isn’t untethered.

You can learn more about wInd3x and what we know about it in our full news post.
