Ichitaso releases OTADisabler software update blocking utility for TrollStore

If you’re fortunate enough to have a TrollStore-compatible firmware at your disposal, then you’re probably wondering what you can do to prevent iOS or iPadOS from automatically downloading and installing updates. After all, this is an unfortunate circumstance that has affected a lot of people who trusted the native setting in their iPhone or iPad to avoid automatic software updates.

While you could install the Apple tvOS beta profile to disable software updates on your iPhone or iPad, there’s always the risk that the beta profiles could expire. For that reason, we think a lot of TrollStore users will appreciate iOS developer ichitaso’s new OTADisabler add-on for TrollStore.

If you’re experiencing a case of déjà vu right now, then we wouldn’t fault you. The OTADisabler add-on was already available to jailbreakers as a jailbreak tweak for the same purpose, however the latest add-on simply works with non-jailbroken devices that are running only TrollStore instead.

Avoiding software updates is just as important to TrollStore users as it is to jailbreakers, and that’s because TrollStore’s entire infrastructure depends on a CoreTrust exploit that was first available in iOS & iPadOS 14.0, patched in iOS & iPadOS 16.7, re-enabled again in iOS & iPadOS 17.0, and then patched again in iOS & iPadOS 17.0.1 and newer.

Updating a TrollStore-enabled device to any firmware outside of these parameters will instantly render TrollStore inoperable, and for those who wish to install TrollStore for the first time, it will be impossible on iOS & iPadOS 17.0.1 unless another CoreTrust exploit can be found (and this is unlikely).

So if you’re using TrollStore and you’re interested in blocking over the air (OTA) software updates, then you can now choose between installing the tvOS beta profile or using ichitaso’s new OTADisabler add-on for TrollStore, which can be had for free from the developer’s Patreon page.

Once installed, you can perma-sign the .tipa (TrollStore .ipa) file with TrollStore and then run the app to find a dedicated “enable” or “disable” interface inside. That’s really all there is to it.

Are you going to be taking advantage of OTADisabler? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
