If you like widgets, namely those that make use of HTML and JavaScript, then you know just how powerful they can be. But the popular jailbreak tweaks that make them possible, such as Xen HTML and FrontBoard are said to have limitations that HTMLWidget doesn’t have.
Fortunately for anyone who demands just a little bit more out of their widgets, a new jailbreak tweak called HTMLWidget by iOS developer SouthernGirlWhoCode makes them more interactive than ever.
According to the developer, users can make an apply HTML-based widgets to their device with little or no HTML knowledge and then apply them as native widgets on iOS 14. There is no limit to the number of widgets you can make and apply.
To add a widget, you can enter ‘jiggle’ mode on the Home Screen and use the native widget “+” button to add or create one.
After making or applying widgets, you can use the HTMLWidget app to view and manage all your widgets. A live preview feature in the app lets you see how things will look before you apply them for good.
It’s worth noting that all widgets you add or apply with HTMLWidget are configurable. As you make changes, they apply to your widget so that it reflects the changes you make.
Assuming you are more HTML-friendly than most, the tweak comes with a built-in code editor that supports more than 50 different syntax themes, which means you can really get your hands dirty with customization if you’re into that sort of thing.
For developers who wish to make and support widgets for HTMLWidget, the tweak includes a built-in API. This means you aren’t limited by what HTMLWidget comes with, as developers are free to expand its capabilities and release their work as alternative downloads.
Please note that you may have to run UICache and respring your device in order for HTMLWidgets and the app to appear. Several jailbreak tweaks are capable of these simple functions.
