First Fugu15 Max public beta jailbreak available following unauthorized leak of semi-private developer beta

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably caught wind about progress on a derivative of Linus Henze’s Fugu15 jailbreak, which is currently dubbed Fugu15 Max. We’ve been tracking progress on this tool for several weeks, as it seems like it will have a positive impact on the jailbreak community.

Fugu15 Max public beta 1 released.Fugu15 Max public beta 1 released.

Fugu15 Max project lead developer opa334, the same talented developer who brought the community the TrollStore perma-signing utility, published the first public beta of Fugu15 Max early Wednesday morning. The move was first noted in an announcement post shared to /r/jailbreak.

Fugu15 Max is the working beta name of the jailbreak based on Fugu15 that addresses some of the core issues with Fugu15 in its base form, including the lack of tweak injection support and the dreaded Wi-Fi bug. It supports arm64e devices (those with the A12 chip or newer) running iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1.

Citing notes in the /r/jailbreak post, opa334’s decision to publish the first public beta this morning came after an .ipa of the semi-private developer beta of Fugu15 Max was leaked by someone who was provided a copy by opa334. Obviously, this was an ugly situation in which opa334’s trust was misused by a bad actor, forcing opa334 to publicize the unfinished project before it could be completed.

We sympathize, as opa334 really wanted the general public’s first impression of Fugu15 Max to be a good one with a great user experience, and this obviously won’t be had from an incomplete public beta.

Since the tool is now open to the general public to try, there are a few things you should know per the GitHub page:

Notes (IMPORTANT):

– Final jailbreak will have a different name
– Update debianutils before updating dash
– Use ElleKit deb here for now for tweak injection (repo soon)
– Userspace reboots are not supported
– You need to manually restart processes that you want stuff to inject to after jailbreaking
– Some stuff might not work correctly, don’t expect stability, we can’t currently estimate this until userspace rebooting is implemented and the whole system is hooked
– God knows what else
– Default password for root: alpine (you need to install openssh from package manager)

Rootless Notes:

– No existing non rootless package will work
– Repos and package maintainers have to add support for rootless
– Barely any packages currently available

Important to note here is that many jailbreak tweak developers have not yet updated their jailbreak tweaks to support the rootless dynamic, but some have. Also, repository managers need to implement support for the rootless dynamic, which has so far only been confirmed by Chariz and Havoc. The number of jailbreak tweaks that will run on Fugu15 Max via the ElleKit tweak injection method is therefore limited.

Please note that opa334 didn’t want this jailbreak being leaked to the general public, but it was anyway, prompting him to release a public beta before it was ready. As a result, opa334 will only provide support to jailbreak tweak developers.

opa334 will only support developers as long as Fugu15 Max is in beta.opa334 will only support developers as long as Fugu15 Max is in beta.

Ordinary users who move forward against all rational advisement do so at their own risk, and are instead urged to wait for the official public release. You have been warned.

To learn more about Fugu15 Max, you can head over to the project’s GitHub page where it’s offered as a .tipa file that can be perma-signed via TrollStore.
