Dopamine v2 receives updates that address minor bug fixes following initial release

Earlier today, Dopamine jailbreak lead developer Lars Fröder (@opa334dev) released Dopamine v2, adding support for newer versions of iOS & iPadOS 16 on various devices by way of the Kernel File Descriptor (KFD) exploit and the recently released PPL bypass.

But as you’d expect from an initial release, Dopamine v2 has already received a handful of smaller bug fix updates, including versions 2.0.1, 2.0.2, and 2.0.3. All three releases were announced by way of posts shared to X (formerly Twitter), and we’ll talk about those below.

First to be released was Dopamine v2.0.1, which introduced the following changes:

– Fix XPF not working on 15.0.x arm64e
– Fix an app crash during the jailbreak process
– Fix an app crash when launching the app on a jailbreak that is not Dopamine (this is still not really supported)

Shortly after Dopamine v2.0.1 launched, Fröder announced v2.0.2 with additional bug fixes, including the following:

– Fix new bootstrap getting created every rejailbreak (super dumb 2.0.1 regression…)

Lastly, and the current version as of the time of this writing, v2.0.3, was launched to introduce the following changes:

– Fix localization fallback not properly working (would show placeholder instead of english when no localization for the selected language was available)
– Don’t attempt jbupdate if the phone is not already jailbroken
– Fix an issue where PAC primitives would get lost during a jbupdate, causing the launch of a sideloaded Dopamine app to trigger a kernel panic on <15.2

These updates can be installed manually by downloading the latest release from the Dopamine website and then perma-signing it with TrollStore, or you can use the more convenient OTA (over-the-air) updating mechanism in the Dopamine jailbreak app.

Fröder has warned that the OTA updating mechanism appears to be dysfunctional on certain devices, which is why we mentioned the manual install method. That said, if the OTA update doesn’t work for you, then you can simply re-download and perma-sign the latest version.

Folks who experience issues jailbreaking with Dopamine v2 should ensure that they have Developer Mode enabled on their device. While Fröder says that this requirement could be lifted in a future update, it’s required at this time.

If you’re not already using Dopamine v2, then you should obviously download and use the latest version when downloading it for the first time. This ensures that you’re taking advantage of the latest bug fixes and improvements when you use it for the first time.

The supported device list is currently as follows:

  • iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.6.1 on arm64 (A9 and later chip-equipped devices for now)
  • iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.5.1 on A12-A14 and M1 chip-equipped devices
  • iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.5 on A15-A16 and M2 devices
