If you’re interested in an application for your iPhone or iPad that can analyze every other app on your device and spit out interesting details about them, then you might find a utility called AppIndex by iOS developer Serena to be of interest.
As noted in the package depiction, AppIndex is categorized as an App Explorer/App Manager app with unique abilities such as:
- Analyzing apps on a device
- Sorting applications by type (System/User)
- Searching for applications by name or bundle ID
- Viewing extensive information about each app
- Backing up apps
- Restoring backups of apps
- Exporting apps as .ipa files
As you can see in the screenshot examples above and below, the AppIndex app provides information for each and every app that might be of interest to you, especially if jailbroken, including the following:
- Bundle Identifier
- Type
- Date and time an app was downloaded
- Version
- SDK version the app was built with
- iTunes metadata, such as vendor, genre, and age rating
- Minimum iOS version required to run the app
- Size of application, it’s bundle size, documents size, and group container size
- The stations of the app, whether it’s delectable, a beta, containerized, or restricted
- Advanced information about apps, such as if they’re iTunes File Sharing compatible, if it came from the App Store, etc.
- Entitlements
- Registered URL schemes
- Usage descriptions for privacy prompts
- Transport security exemptions
- Registered uniform type identifiers
- Bundle or group container paths
- And more…
Not everybody is going to have a use for AppIndex, but it has some potentially useful information for developers and tinkerers who need a little more than an app icon and a name for their workflows.
AppIndex supports both jailbroken devices running iOS & iPadOS 15.x-16.x and non-jailbroken devices running the TrollStore perma-signing utility. TrollStore supports devices that are vulnerable to the CoreTrust bug, which encompasses iOS & iPadOS 14.0-15.4.1 (and some 15.5 and 15.6 betas).
If you’re interested in giving AppIndex a try for yourself, then you can download it for free from the Chariz repository on jailbroken devices via a package manager app, or from the project’s GitHub page on TrollStore devices.
